Privilege Escalation via Dropped Field-Level @authentication

03 Exploitation and scoring

Exploitation
Assessed, none found. CISA's assessment recorded neither public exploit code nor evidence of exploitation when it was made.
SSVC decision
  • ExploitationnoneCISA recorded no public exploit code and no evidence of exploitation.
  • AutomatablenoAt least one step from reconnaissance to exploitation cannot be reliably automated.
  • Technical ImpacttotalSuccessful exploitation gives total control of the vulnerable component.
CISA publishes the decision points, not a final SSVC decision. The decision also depends on mission and well-being impact, which is a property of your deployment rather than of the vulnerability.
EPSS probability
0.48% probability of exploitation activity in the next 30 days.
EPSS percentile
Equal to or higher than the score of 41.7% of scored records. A rank, not a probability.
NVD base score
7.6 (CVSS v4.0), scored by the NVD independently of the CNA.

07 Remediation

Upgrade the library to 7.6.0+ or 5.12.15+. v6 is end-of-life and will not receive a fix. v5 releases prior to 5.2.0 are not affected. For users who cannot upgrade immediately: do not combine a type-level @authentication with a field-level @authentication on the same root operation type. Because the type-level annotation is what shadows the field-level rule, removing it restores correct enforcement — instead apply a complete @authentication directive to each root field individually, including the full stricter rule on the sensitive field. Alternatively, enforce the stricter requirement inside the custom resolver's own code.
