This however uses kmalloc to expand the head,\nwhich will later allow consume_skb() to free the skb while is it still\nin use by AF_XDP.\n\nPreviously if the headroom was less than XDP_PACKET_HEADROOM we\ncontinued on to allocate a new skb from pages so this restores that\nbehavior.\n\nBUG: KASAN: use-after-free in __xsk_rcv+0x18d/0x2c0\nRead of size 78 at addr ffff888976250154 by task napi/iconduit-g/148640\n\nCPU: 5 PID: 148640 Comm: napi/iconduit-g Kdump: loaded Tainted: G O 6.1.4-cloudflare-kasan-2023.1.2 #1\nHardware name: Quanta Computer Inc. "value": "AV:L - The bug is in veth's XDP receive path (veth_xmit → xdp_ring → veth_xdp_rcv_skb → XDP_REDIRECT), reached by transmitting on the peer veth, not by parsing remote protocol data on the wire. Triggering it requires local access to a namespace/interface that can xmit into that peer.\nAC:L - Once an XDP_REDIRECT program is attached on veth (a common production setup), the attacker only needs to cause peer transmits that yield a linear page-frag skb with headroom < XDP_PACKET_HEADROOM; that layout occurs in normal forwarding/NIC paths and does not depend on an attacker-uncontrollable race.\nPR:L - Attaching XDP needs CAP_BPF/CAP_NET_ADMIN, but the worst reasonable case is an already-configured host (e.g. Cloudflare-style AF_XDP on veth) where an unprivileged local/container user can send on the peer and hit the UAF. Creating veth itself is also reachable with CAP_NET_ADMIN via user namespaces.\nUI:N - No victim action is required; the attacker triggers the path by sending packets through the veth peer once XDP_REDIRECT is present.\nS:U - This is host-kernel memory corruption in the veth/XDP path and does not cross a VM, IOMMU, or other separate security authority.\nC:H - The UAF frees a kmalloc-backed skb head while AF_XDP still memcpy's from it in __xsk_rcv, exposing reallocated slab contents to userspace; bogus get_page() on slab memory further enables broader read primitives via page lifetime corruption.\nI:H - Use-after-free of the skb head plus incorrect page refcounting on slab pages can be turned into heap spray / arbitrary write and control-flow hijack in the kernel.\nA:H - The UAF reliably causes kernel KASAN reports, oopses, or panics even without full exploitation, as shown by the reported crash in __xsk_rcv."
